My Friday the 13th "Adventure"

Last Wednesday I paid a visit to a prominent surgeon, by way of referral from my family doctor, to have a nagging umbilical hernia checked out. I knew going in that the only way to "correct" the thing was through surgery, and that's exactly what I'm heading into early Friday morning. I had figured that I would not be able to get in for at least two or three weeks, but Friday the 13th had an opening at 9:30 a.m., so I jumped at the opportunity. Thus, this week has been filled with phone calls from nurses taking my medical history and filling me in on what I need to do in preparation for my "adventure." This morning was spent having blood drawn, urine donated, an EKG, and a chest x-ray to finish things off! And, of course, there's the phone tag with the insurance folks, but even that hasn't been much of an issue. In short, all systems are "go" for surgery.

Needless to say, I'm glad all of the pre-registration, pre-surgical testing, etc., etc. is finished and I can now focus on showing up around 7:30 a.m. Friday and letting them do whatever it is they need to do. I'm not thrilled with the thought of anesthesia, but what's the alternative? Several years ago, I had some wisdom teeth removed under anesthesia and I only remember waking up and wondering what had happened. And time seemed to fly right on by. I'm hoping that I can remain calm and all goes as expected. The surgeon is well respected and has a great track record. I'm banking on that this Friday the 13th!  Stay tuned for my play-by-play of it all sometime this weekend. Down the road we go...MLA

  1. Had my hernia surgery back in 2006, and while this might me the wrong thing to say but it happened during the worst part of my wife's "change of life."

All things being equal I do not know which was worse.

  2. It's not as simple as many would have you think! All went well, and I made it through the night without too much discomfort. This morning, I'm a bit "washed out," but my orders are to "do nothing," and I'm pretty good at that!
