Journeying onward...

They came...
The house filled up rather quickly between Friday morning and Friday evening just past, as they came to celebrate the life of a wonderful man. The food and drinks were plentiful the whole weekend, and the weather was spectacular. Saturday's service at our Presbyterian Church was perfect, and the flag ceremony performed near the end of the service was completely awesome and moving. (Taps tends to do that!) Afterward, at the church, the catered lunch was delicious.  There was more than enough, and the leftovers have filled our fridge to the limit. We're still working our way through fried chicken, mostaccioli, potatoes, rolls, etc. The "gathering" back at our house was a continuation of laughs, shared memories, and simply being together. More food...more drink...superb weather...college football on TV in the garage...kids playing in the yard...catching up on the latest with folks we hadn't seen in such a long time...It was all good!

They went...
By Sunday most had departed for home and our house once again became larger all over again. The last to leave were Skip and Deb, who we sent on their way back to North Carolina early this morning. Now, we've busied ourselves with putting the place back in order. I hauled the two large containers of recyclables to the Waste Management site and have the garage and coolers all back in order. Tables and chairs have been put away and/or delivered to their rightful owners. Our dining room table has been "de-leafed" and has once again shrunk to its normal length until next time--probably Thanksgiving--when we'll fill this place up all over again and share many more laughs and nonsense in general. We've come to the realization that we put on a pretty good party! Now we recuperate...

Random thoughts...
As I write this, I'm listening to the latest album from George Strait, Here for a Good Time. It is comprised of 11 songs, and they're all wonderful! I've known for many years that he's the best in the business, and he reaffirms it with this effort...And it's time, I realize, to get on with my next writing project. It was a long summer of writing absolutely nothing, and I was happy to have myself in that position. Now, though, it's time to bring the ghosts out of the drawer and writing file box and get serious about what's next. I had some nice comments and feedback from some people who attended the service this past Saturday, and they asked me when they could expect my next book. I guess that's the "prodding" I really needed to get things fired up here at the old writing desk once again. So, as George Strait sings those haunting and beautiful tunes from his new album, I'm inspired to jump back into the writing life. Stay tuned. And down the road we journey ever onward...MLA
