"Don't get fooled again..."
According to the calendar, it's "officially" spring, which means we northern Illinoisans can prepare for some of the craziest "wintry" weather imaginable! I know, all of the remnants of the "big" blizzard are gone and yards have actually begun to "green up." But we can't let any of that fool us. Yesterday was nothing but on-and-off downpours. And, according to the weather folks last night, today is supposed to be the nicest of the week, the weather notice posted below, notwithstanding!
Right now, it's foggy and dreary and quite damp out there, which once again leads me to the old piece of advice that says not to "put the cart before the horse" in thinking that the worst weather is behind us! In fact, we are probably a long way from those glorious sun-filled mornings, when the birds are happily chirping and flitting about and doing their thing.
Alas, my plans to haul the deck furniture and umbrella up from their winter hibernation down in the basement may have to be put on hold a while longer. Just last week I was eagerly anticipating resuming my "good weather" routine of starting the morning off with a walk with my dog Casey, followed by the pleasure of enjoying my coffee out on our deck--watching and listening to the nature all around. Despite what is shaping up for this week, I know that those kinds of mornings are not too far off; it just won't be this week.
From my "window to the world" this morning, I can see that the yard out back is a tad greener than it was yesterday, the empty corn field lies ready for the farmer in a few short weeks, and the lane out to the water tower is wet and muddy from yesterday's deluges. And despite the fact that my calendar reaffirms that we're in the second day of spring, it seems nothing more than a big tease. And I just happened to come across the following "blurb" this morning...
"A DEVELOPING STRONG SPRING STORM ACROSS THE CENTRAL PLAINS MONDAY NIGHT WILL MOVE INTO NORTHERN ILLINOIS BY WEDNESDAY MORNING. ... THE SNOW IS EXPECTED TO BE WET AND HEAVY AND DIFFICULT TO SHOVEL AND PLOW. ..."
Another week has begun, and with it new beginnings of ideas and roads to travel. I'm glad I didn't put the snow thrower away just yet!...MLA
Naturally we are a little further along in Spring time conditions down here in South Carolina, so much that my wife and I will have to buy a new lawnmower by the end of March.
ReplyDeleteI have made it clear to her that when our son goes off to college in four yeats she will need to hire a service that will cut and trim the lawn. I really have no desire to start that stuff up again.
